How can I start my own cat rescue leaque?
Hi,
I love animals very much and especially cats. I can't stand abuse of animals and I have found so many people that don't like cats. I currently take care of my elderly father, but I would like to one day buy a small piece of land so that I can rescue cats and care for them. I would love ideas on how to get this accomplished and how to seek some aide like from vets to get the cats spayed so they don't have more kittens and also some help on food and cat litter supplies etc.

1. Hi Becky,
I spend alot of time working with pet rescues. Before you do anything like this, you will want to do alot of research. If not done correctly you will end up with people from everywhere dropping cats off. You need to check out zoning for keeping more than 3 cats, need to establish yourself as a non-profit rescue, etc. Alot of work. I suggest you work with an established shelter first. You will help them tremendously and learn at the same time. You may find out it is more work then you initially thought.
2. talk to your local rescue clinic or mail your mayor about your idea. Then he'll see if u have the right habitat 4 the cats to live well in, maybe. You might not get this wish of yours granted though.
3. yes i agree i volunteer in an animal shelter once a week and i have found i ahave learnt sooooooooooo much about animal i have been ther 2 years and i am hoping to volunter in their vet clininc to learn more this is my advice angela.
4. I don't know but I'm just saying thank you for all the cats if I had the money to buy land i would too hope you get this accomplished bless you for you have kind heart for wanting to do this as all rescuers do
5. Before you get this started, find out about the zoning restrictions where you plan to set up. I have heard of a number of no kill shelters that have had trouble with neighbors. Make sure the law is on your side.
Good luck.
6. You need a car with cage and your ready.
7. i agree with petsitter joy ..living out in the country my folks rescued animals dosmetic and wild it takes a lot of patience care love its expensive and some times you have to deal with the previous owners saying they want there pet back after they beat and neglected them(needless to say they werent given back) call your local pet shelter and the humane society a good way too start is to volunteer at these places or the vets. bringing in a rescued pet is heartbreaking just to see these noble creatures neglected or shot from a careless hunter leaving a deer left to die or a fawn stumbling around cause there mom was killed by a car the joy is to know you helped it then found a home or kept it but also theres heart break sometimes it didnt make it but in your heart you know they knew you tried good luck and god bless there should be more people like you out there
8. Well, depending on where you live, first you need to find some land for sale and buy it. Then build what you think would be the proper home for yourself and get tips from a vet on how to safely and healthily care for masses of cats without endangering yourself and your neighbors, if there are any. Then, you need to ask the humane society in your area what the limit per person the amount of cats you can have legally. Then, build your house/shelter, and afterward, you can get discounts on vet visits because you are a real repeat customer. Then, you can live in peace with all of your cats, or you can expand and start your own chapter of the Humane Society, or the Animal Rescue Leagues.
Good Luck to you, and have a great" Meow "day.

11. Talk to you veterinarian, humane associatin or other cat coalition/animal treatment centers in your area. I agree, there are way too many people who mistreat animals. Volunteer for an animal care agency so when you are ready, you will know who to contact to get started and what to do. Good Luck and I wish you all the best
12. Contact Maddiesfund.org or Bestfriends.org. Best Friends has seminars all the time for people wanting to establish sanctuaries. Maddie's Fund can provide financial support and you have to submit a plan to them.
Either organisation will have some information for you about establishing a sanctuary.
