What wild cat breeds can be found in Illinois?
We saw this large wild cat walking through our backyard we want to know what it is.

1. Illinois had a mountain lion that traveled from South Dakota last year, it was shot outside Chicago.Native wild cats--I highly doubt you'd have lynx, but you could have bobcat. Was the end of the tail white?
Anything else would be domestic cats, but some do get up over 20 pounds if they have Maine Coon in them.
Ocelots aren't this far north, Jaguars were killed out of this country about 100 years ago. That's it for 'cats' on this continent.
