What kind of cat breeds are good for a first time owner?
I'm looking for a sweet, loving, dependent, (can be energetic) cat. Any suggestions?

1. well if you want a big cat i would recomend a savana but they are prety expensive, you could also get a maincoon there prety big and cute and nice, if you dont mind ugly you could also get one of them hairless cats, they are so nice and soft, and awsome :D
2. Hmm, dependent. I'd suggest rescuing a Siamese. Lookup the breed traits, they are wonderful cats who are total lovesponges and a personal shadow.
3. All my life I've had American Shorthair's and if I could recommend a first time cat, I recomend them. Of course every cat is different American Shorthair cats tend to be outgoing and willing to accept other pets (including dogs) and children, making them good family cats. Most dislike being alone, so those who are out at work a lot and wish to adopt an American Shorthair should adopt a second cat to keep it company.
American Shorthairs tend to be playful and affectionate, with a tendency to follow owners from one room to the next and to sit on or near them. The American Shorthair is a relatively quiet breed, with a soft, low meow that is usually only used to ask for food or express excitement over the preparation of food
They are most widely known for there robust health and can live from 15-20 years if health is good. They are a cat of mixed breed ancestory, so they are fee from most genetic conditions that effect purebreeds BUT
are somewhat more prone to developing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy than random-bred cats.
Their fur is short and thick, and they are realivily low maintence in that feild. But a once a week combing should reduce any hairballs. If you are interested, here's more:

Overall I think this is a great breed, and recomend them to first time owners for their friendly yet low maitence personality. I had one for 11 years, ever since i was 6 and he worked extremely well with other cats, dogs or fish that we or other neighbors had. He would eat about anything, he never hissed, bit or scratched at toddlers who pet to hard. Everyone loved him to death. When we got kittens, he shared his food, let them crawl all over him, play with his tail etc without so much as a his or snarl, and these kits weren't his. I wont go on, but thats my evaluation
4. I know I am biased; however, Siamese are the best. They love to play and also cuddle. They are big time talkers and can be very vocal at times when they want something. Typically they pick one person in the family to really bond with and that person will be it's shadow.
I like the Classic Siamese with their sleek bodies and round heads. The Traditional Siamese are typically big cats also known as "apple heads."

5. I would say a Ragdoll they are so cute and cuddly! :P
They are great for first time owners and really good with kids and strangers.
And when you hold them in your hand sometimes they will flip around so they are laying on their back sort of dangling off of your hand. (That's where they got the name)
Good luck! :)
6. Maine coons are good for first timers. They are big, friendly, family cats. They are pretty easy to take care of...they need weekly brushing of their thick coats but they are great cats. They are energetic and big...males can top 16 pounds.
I have a female Maine coon who is 5 years old and weighs 12 pounds. She is sweet, affectionate and friendly.
