What cat breeds don't cause allergies or asthma?
My sister is allergic to cats because she has severe asthma. We had to get rid of all of our cats when she was younger because her doctor told us that she was allergic. I was wondering what cat breeds don't have that effect on people who are allergic or have asthma because we are looking to get another cat. Thanks!

1. As long as the person is allergic to cats, it don't matter the breed, the allergy will still be there. The person could possibly take medicine to suppress the allergy but. They will sti be allergic.2. there is no such thing but i want to say that cornish rex cats have the lowest amount of dander... but i could be wrong... and there rele ugly i think...

I had good results with Siberians, but she would have to interact with Siberian cats for as long as her symptoms usually take to be triggered, because some people with allergies can tolerate Siberians and some can't. I've had an allergic reaction to every other cat I've been around within 30 minutes to an hour. I've had my Siberian cat for 8 months and I'm fine.
I decided before getting her that if I developed an allergic reaction to her, I'd start the shots too.
4. There is no cat that is guarantteed not to cause a reaction in allergic people. Some are considered more allergy friendly than others due to producing less dander or less of the protein in the dander. Those include the rex breeds, Abys, and Siberians. However keep in mind that different people react differently to different cats so if you are considering getting one the allergic person (people) need to spend time with the breed and ideally the individual cat to see if it triggers a reaction.
