Cat adoption stories?
Hello there :) I love hearing cat adoption stories, or just rescue stories too. So basically the question is how did you get your cat and how has she/he been ever since? :]

1. I have wanted a kitten/cat since I was two years old and me and my family would go to Petsmart every Saturday to look at the kittens/cats that are being adopted. Every time we went, we were either too late and the kitten I wanted was adopted, or my parents started being picky and said we don't want this one (I hate it when they do that).
Anyways, in March of 2008, I saw an adorable fuzzy little kitten named Mindy who was meowing in a cage with her sister. She was SO CUTE. I asked the lady if I can hold her and she let me and I was very unexperienced at holding kittens. I felt like she could break! Anyways, Mindy's foster family came and told us all about her. What food she eats, how cuddly she is, and how great she is.
The kids that were fostering her even started crying when I told them I want to adopt her. So after me and my mom decided we wanted to adopt her, we called my dad and he rushed over to finish the papers and see her and stuff (my sister was at work and came home later to see a cat at our house)
So then we got her an adorable pink carrier, tons of food, tons of toys, a brush, and all the other necessities. When it was time to go, the foster kids were crying and their poor mom was trying to calm them down. They kept telling me to take good care for her.
So then we brought her home, she was a chatty cat, she adjusted, and it seemed like happily ever after.
BUT THEN.........we brought her to the vet a month later and they said she might have FIP (deadly cat disease) because her eye had a white spot and she was having diarrhea. I broke down because this was the kitten I always wanted and God couldn't take her from me. I prayed and cried almost every day and now..two years later...she is alive and well :)
2. Well, I used to do a lot of cat/kitten rescue work out in California back 4 years ago.
One situation that I will never ever forget is.. A mean/scum bag guy had thrown a litter of newborn kittens out his truck window on the interstate that were in a box. (these kittens still had the umbilical cord attached!)
Well they ALL survived amazingly with no injuries!
We got them into the rescue that I was working at and I decided to foster/take care of them all (7!) until they were old enough to place in their forever home. I had to bottle feed them every 2 hours for the first 4 weeks! But amazingly they all made it and when it came time to give them to their forever homes, it was so bittersweet. I was balling my eyes out. I was very happy they all got great homes, but at the same time I was sad to see them all go.
I do believe the story had made the news out in San Diego (when the guy first threw them out the window of his truck. I am not sure if they caught him or not.. I really hope they did and that he rots/dies in prison)
I currently have 2 kitties right now. but both of these lil' guy & gal came from craigslist. (I am going to be adopting a shelter adult cat within this year)
3. I work for a shelter and I got all 3 of my cats from there. The first was a 4 week old black male kitten. This big old burly man came in cuddling this little kitten he found him at a work site. The kitten was in bad shape. He had URI and my manager was set on putting the little guy down. I told her I would take the kitten home and nurse him back to health. She warned me that the kitten would not make it. I took him home and spent many sleepless nights feeding and nursing him back to health. He now is 2 yrs old. The second one was a female 4 month old kitten with ringworm she was due to be put to sleep I took her home and she is ringworm free and a healthy 1 yr old. My third is a beautiful long haired white male. He was 3 months old again had bad URI he was going to be put to sleep he had become chronic. He now is almost 1 yr old still has chronic URI but I love him dearly. Right now I have another hopeless case. My Moe Joe is a brown tiger with URI. I brought him home last night. He is doing better and he will make a great addition to my cat family. That is the only draw back about working at the shelter. It is so tough not bringing them all home, Just when I say no more animals. Another one steals my heart.
4. My latest cat lived across the road from my parents, and her owners neglected her. She had 3 litters of kittens, one after the other, and when she had her last litter (in their filthy garden shed!) they went away on holiday, and just left her to fend for herself, with her kittens.
So, I am afraid to say, I stole them! Her so called owners wouldnt have even missed her. I took them home with me, and kept them safe and warm and fed until her kittens were weaned and then I found good homes for them, and kept the mother to live with me.
5. The very first cat that i can remember was a stray my sister took in she appeared on her doorstep, she was heavily pregnant and gave birth soon after, she seemed to settle but when the kittens were about a week old she rejected them,so they were bottle fed but only one survived, she grew strong and i remember her nibbling our toes while we were trying to sleep,so earned her name "Tootsies"she was such a funny cat almost human, she lived to be 18,
then there was another cat again pregnant and homeless, took her in and she gave birth to a litter, she was a good mother who cared for them, but one was attacked by a male cat at weeks old she almost died, so it was another bottle feeding as she was so ill,vet told me to expect the worst as she was in a bad way,
i called her "Babi"she was very fluffy and she made a full recovery, what a strong girl i kept her and she was such a gentle cat,but had a sense of humour too,she lived to be 15 and made me very happy for the whole time she was with me,i miss her loads,
we had another cat after again pregnant who decided our doorstep was a good place to turn up on!,she had a litter as well we had homes for the kittens and kept the mother cat, she stayed with us for 14 years before old age took her, her name was "Sue-Anne" ,she was such a fun cat climbing curtains she made us laugh daily with her antics!
but the list we have had is endless all strays and took in many rehomed, our house was such a busy place with all the cats we helped, everywhere we looked there was a cat, sleeping on the beds on the armchairs,on shelves, even in the bathroom sink!
we even took in a couple of dogs who had been abused, one puppy was thrown downstairs by the breeder juts because she wanted to come out of her nest instead of sleep, she was just 6 weeks old,we kept her she lived to be 13 and a half and was the boss of the house!
so many fostered and adpoted cats and dogs,i love them all and will never turn an animal in need away, animals make the world a great place to be!
