Why would a cat lose weight due to the adoption of another kitten?
I rescued a long haired gray tabby kitten from the gas chamber and brought it home. One of my other two cats lost 4 pounds almost immediately. and still won't have anything to do with the adopted one and its been over a year. He never gained his weight back. Is this just an over jealous feline? ( answers appreciated)

1. Hi Johnathan... there are several possibilities as to why this may have happened:
- Your cat may have lost his appetite when the new kitten came home - he ate very little affecting his weight.
- If the two are sharing the same food bowl/dish, the kitten could be eating your other cat's portion of the lion's share.
- there could be an underlying medical problem (e.g. kidneys, thyroid, diabetes... etc) that could have contributed to the weight loss and lack of weight gain, etc.
If there's any suspicion, please never hesitate to ring your veterinarian and discuss with them your concerns. It's better to address these potentially life-threatening disorders as quickly as possible.
