is it normal for a rescue cat to love on resident dog as soon as they met?
We adopted a cat a couple weeks ago and when we got him home he acted like he had always lived with our family and even rubbed on the dog like they were old friends.
Our 11yr old sib acted dumb founded it was funny. She was used to my mils cat that was old and was a cats cat hissing and scratching and all that. Who'd thunk a shelter cat would changed the old dogs mind. Thanks for the answers.

1. A cat and a dog getting along that well? Yes, it's rare. Most of the cats I have had would sneer, hiss and slash at toher dogs no matter how friendly they are. I've seen it happen ,but it's rare and cats and dogs get slong best when they are babies. Thats cool your pets get along, thats really cute.
2. What you have is one of the miracles that you can get with rescue cats. When I was about 12, I rode my bicycle around the block, and came home with a tuxedo cat. To me, she was always the most beautiful cat in the world, but my mother told me that she was a scrawny, scraggly flea-bitten stray. My mother said that we could keep the cat ONLY if she got along with our old dog. The dog appeared, barking up a storm and being all protective about her territory, and the cat sat up on her hind legs and touched noses with the dog. They were best friends after that, and my mother went straight into the house to open a can of condensed milk and a can of salmon for the cat until we could get to the store.
Yes, it can happen, but I don't think it is normal.
3. It sounds like the cat is used to dogs. It looks like he found a new friend.
