1. why the hell would you insure a cat? are they that expendable to you? that's ridiculous....
2. I believe the question was, What are the most expensive cat breeds to insure? Duane answered what some of the "claims" were for certain breeds and that has nothing to do with the cost of the insurance. The most expensive breeds to insure are naturally the pure breeds of which the Maine Coon is one. One of my favorite and the one I used to breed is the Persian which is another. It wasn't until about 30 years ago that the Himalayan and the Rag Doll were considered to be full breeds by the Cat Fancy Association or CFA. They are off springs of the Persian and in my opinion should cost less to insure but that isn't the case now that they have changed status. Every insurance CLAIM is going to be different depending on what you are using your insurance for. The reason these cats are and should be insured is that they are full bred animals that have registration papers and usually a show winner or two in their lineage. They can cost as much as $900 to $1,000 depending on if you are able to purchase breeding rights. I would insure my investment too. You learn from experience that one trip to the Emergency Vet on a Sunday afternoon can cost you in excess of $1,000 if your cat needs medical attention and that is why you insure them.
3. you can get free quotes at pet insurance websites
4. The cost of pet insurance is to cover illnesses not the "replacement value" of a cat as if it was a car. So your question has no answer. The cost of insurance depends on the AGE of the cage - not its breed. Plus I'm betting your "Maine Coon" is simply a longhaired domestic you're ASSUMING is one. Do you have its TICA, CFA or ACFA pedigreed?
As far as the price to purchase a pedigreed cat the Maine Coon is pretty average - starting around $600 for pet quality and into the thousands for show quality. Far more expensive are the Sphynx, Singapura, Egyptian Mau, Bengal, Savannah.
edit: thanks for wasting our time. Every one of your "Best Answers" is someone with a link advertising a website. Reporting this account as well as the one that answered with the advertisement for pet insurance. Think you're smart? People like me on here are far smarter. Bye bye accounts!
5. Cat breeds that experience the most health problems are the most expensive to insure. Your cat is one of these expensive cat breeds. These cats fall ill easily and because of that they need a lot of medical care. This also makes them expensive to insure. Here is a list of the most expensive cat breeds in terms of insurance claims cost:
* Siamese, average claim $396.44
* Bengal, average claim $64.95
* Himalayan, average claim $215.99
* Maine Coon, average claim $.81
* Ragdoll, average claim $77.70
