Can a quiet cat start running about inside the flat during the night out of the blue?
My neighbour upstairs has a cat. I hardly ever see the cat outside although she has put a cat flap in her front door. I live downstairs and hardly ever heard the cat. After three years in this place, I can hear the cat running all over her flat during the night. It's awful.

1. Cats are nocturnal, so very likely that you'll hear it at night.2. It's having a spaz. My cat has them, they run away from their tail and pounce everywhere. My cat does it, they're like a little kid, make up an imaginary game when they're bored.
3. Are you sure it’s the cat? Who knows…Maybe the cat has found something he likes to play with. One of my cats loves his ball and goes crazy running around with it whenever he sees it. My guess is you are never going to know unless you ask your neighbour…

4. Cats are nocturnal hunters, and yes they take great delight in running a full speed round the house.
You will find this is because, they sleep during the day, perhaps the owner is out working, and the cat gets up.
I work during the day, so when i come home, i play with my kitten, and tire her out, i ensure she has lots of toys to keep her occupied when i am not there.
She generally sleep during the night, but she is up at the crack of dawn! And i play with her and give her lots of cuddles before i go to work.
I leave the radio on for her, to give her some sound in the silence.
Have a word with your concerns with the neighbour, they could perhaps stop the cat going into the room above your bedroom, and if you close your bedroom door, you might not hear the cat in the hall. They might have flooring, rather than carpets. XXX

6. this is the thing with cats they are nocturnal my kitty he sleeps from 10am mostly throughout the day if left alone he would sleep untill about 6 but my 10yr old son comes in from school at 3.30pm so tobias is awoken up. he will have his tea at 5-6 have a little cat nap and just when everyones asleep and i am ready for sleep definatly by 12pm tobias awakes and that is it i usually have to shoo him out of my bedroom by 2am as he just paces and howls litterally and i cnt sleep. once my bedroom door is shut i cnt hear him so thank the lord for that as when i have ever woken up early and cnt get back to sleep i can hear tobias running all over the place sometimes its like someone is chasing him all over he sometimes climbs the wall all erratic and crazy iv had to get up and go and see whats going on? and he just looks at me with his big round eyes like ...what?? cats can be very skitish if no one knows what that means its when they just go crazy like a 2 year old having a mad hour but its for abit longer lol. the cats three now and will be wide awake alert and on the go while you are downstairs wide awake because of it. maybe speak to the lady? i dnt know how you would resolve this?
7. The cats can see what humans cannot. Your neighbor's cat may be chasing something that we cannot see. Often they do so- frightening somebody or been frightened by something and for our eyes there is nothing to see. May be your neighbor has a troll? Or may be a cat has a dating period?
