My cat got stuck up a tree and the fire brigade want to charge me for rescue - is this legal?
I have little money. They gave me the option to rescue the cat (£250) or they could shoot it down (£50). It was a heart breaking decision but I had to tell them to shoot tiddles. Now I feel so sad, I have lost 2 faithful companions in the matter of a week.

1. Should have just waited for the cat to come down. And yes it is legal. That is not there job.
2. Tiddles plight saddens my heart, You did the right thing though. Food on the table is more important than a Cat.
3. Neither you dumb *********** >:[ You shot down a harmless cat that was probably going to come down soon after anyway.
Cruel
4. Yes , I do believe this is legal . You're asking them to do something they're not payed to do so naturally they would charge you. Also , if i was in your place I would just wait for the cat to come down eventually , Its not like it'd stay up there forever.

5. Yes it is legal you should of yes let it come down it's self or climbed up or got a sporty person to climb up the tree and the fire brigade has better stuff to do like there job rescuing people from fires.
6. Well I'd Woolf of got them to get it down but if u was stuck for money ask someone in ur familey for som money and yeah is elegal
7. uh thats heartbreaking
But i wonder why you called the fire brigade to get your cat down the tree. Normally your little fellow comes down on its own once being fed up to sit up there knowing the yummie food is served in an hour or so.
Since there was noone in danger they want to get payed. where i live this is just normal.
Next time ...say you would like to pay 250 have them save your cat, and pass out right in front of them hitting the floor so that they need to help you.
In this case there was someone in danger (you) and its for free
8. Cats always come down eventually especially when things quiet down and people leave the area.
Not sure I believe your story...if the fire dept was already there to "shoot" the cat, what more expense is there in running the ladder up the tree?
9. Ooooh Archer you fool, you should have used an arrow!
And one can only wonder....
where's Monica?
10. Next cat put their favorite toy under the tree,,food ,water .sit near the tree but do not pay attention to the cat.Now for your next Cat find a Bengal it is called. Don't expect to find a pedigreed cheap. There mixed Bengals. We have one who has black spots. Is grayish ,white lighter darker shades of gray Black strips all around. Some Yellow/orange on her stomach. a fun cat . A hunter who is constantly hunting ,Playing. Very affectionate .picks and chooses when she wants be held ,petted, plays. You may find one by advertising in news papers etc for a cat I have described. Do not say Bengal the price will climb. They are on the small side. Visit your animal rescue centers for what I have described. You may find a lot of cats with bad habits, with patience this can be a problem which may be solved. Visit with Animal a few times before taking home.
11. Lord Archer are you 'aving fluffy on here? ;)
12. Yes. While you see that happen in movies, in real life its taking away time if there is a real emergency. Would you feel bad if the fire truck was at your house rescuing a cat in a tree and your neighbors house burned down because they were busy with you.
Most cats will eventually come down from a tree. Animal Control probably would have been a better choice to call. And if you keep your cats inside they would be safer.
13. Is this a real question? If so, please do not get another cat. First, the cat would have come down. Second, if it really would not come down, paying for unexpected emergencies for your animal is expected. If you can't afford for the emergencies, don't own a pet. I hope your child does not get stuck in a tree. I honestly do not feel this is a real question. You are probably sitting at your computer laughing.
14. Troll
15. Surprised you didn't have your own bow and arrow handy Lord Archer.
