Why is my 4 year old rescue cat allways crying for food?

Her health checks out fine. I have her on a mixture of Hills M/D and R/D, the amount was calculated by my vet. I feed her little bits at a time. In the morning before I leave and through out the evening. Poor thing is driving me crazy.

1. Just a wining so and so!!

2. As long as she is getting the right amount in little bits through the day, it's probably just a habit she has picked up. If she was a rescue she probably was used to going hungry, and eating whenever food presented itself. So, since she keeps telling you she's hungry and you keep feeding her, she had learnt that whining all the time gets her food!

I would personally give her all her food at once and leave it at that. She will probably keep whining for food for a few days, but you need to teach her that it will not get her food and hopefully she will soon realise that actually she is getting enough and stop asking for more. It could also be that she's bored and food is the high point of her day. Try playing games with her instead of just feeding her, maybe let her out in the garden or even take her for a walk on a cat leash!

3. Lol!... My cat does the same all the time! I think it is not so much hungry as it is being greedy! Everytime my cat comes into the house after being out it wants to eat. I wouldn't worry, just feed him... i do it to my cat and he is a fine slim athlete!

4. She's probably worried that if her bowl is empty that she won't get anymore food. If she was a stray, or in a home where she did not get fed regularly, she was probably unsure of when her next meal was coming, and now she still has that fear even though you are trying your best to feed her perfectly. Try to keep it up, even if you do feel bad - I know that our rescue cat, even when he's full, will just keep eating anyway, so that could be a problem for you if you were to put more food out! :)

5. this doesnt really mean that your cat is hungry at all it could just be from it's previous owner not giving it the proper amount of food try consoling your cat when this behavior starts up then it should soon realize that it should stop cyring to get more attention from you
hope this helps

6. Hi
Why is your cat on such crappy foods? For example, M is supposedly for diabetic cats and diabetic cats shouldn't eat it let alone others. Have you read the ingrediants on that stuff you are feeding? The reason your cat is crying for food is cause it needs to eat more to get the nutrients it needs.Feed a carnivore a proper iet and avoid problems in the future. Sorry your vet sorely lacks any information about nutrtion

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?
http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Read_a_Pet_Food_Ingredient_Label
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php

7. I got a rescue kitten who was starved and he constatnly begged for food. I thought this was because our other cat was eating the food so I kept putting out more food. Everytime the bowl was empty he would whine, run to the fridge when we got up and yell at us until we gave him somthing to eat or a treat. After 9 months I had a 28 pound grey haired monster who would lay between the food and water bowls and just move his head to eat. After 18 months of dieting, he got down to a slimmer 16 pounds. Do what the people say, just ignore it if you can, its better in the long run and you wont have all the health issuse we had to deal with. Playing with him worked , as he soon learned that no food was coming, only running and jumping, he quickly figured out that whining only meant exercise and he quickly stopped. (Until he got strong enough to jump up and reach the other cat's food, now im starting all over again) But I can say, JUST LET HIM WHINE!!! too much can come from teaching them to overeat. TRUST ME I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE!!!! ohh his name is Clovis, the big boy. or gravy love.

8. Some cats are that way! My 9 y.o. is the same. He just has no limits and if it was up to him he'd be a watermelon on legs. He was found on the streets and that is probably why he ended up this way: he knows well what hunger is. and part of him fears being hungry again.

I know it drives you crazy! What I try to do is talking to him, saying "that's it now, you've had enough!" with patience, then either a)pick him up and carry him around giving him some love and sweet chatting, b) make him play. It's unnerving, I know, but it's probably something which won't change and we are going to have to deal with it! Substituting food for attention is the first step. It works for people as well!
Try it out, and just be patient.

Mine is on r/d as well, it's really high on fibre so that the cat feels full for longer, but non-greasy foods like boiled white fish or a can of tuna in brine or plain prawns can be substituted and they will improve muscle tone while not adding any fat.
Good luck with your adorable fatty :)

9. Cats don't really need their food regulated. Unlike dogs, they will only eat what they need. Cars aren't good at conforming to a schedule, they like to have their own routine. I'm sure that if you just put your cat food into a big bowl or a food dispenser you will notice a dramatic change(for the good) in your cats behavior.

10. She has known long times with no food. Your feeding her a little at a time may be healthy but has she ever been truly full after one meal?
