I'm going to be taking in a rescue cat and I have two dogs?
I'm a little nervous because one of my dogs, a german shepard, has a very strong prey-instinct and has always wanted to chase cats. She has never been socialized with a cat. My other dog, a small dog, has been learning from her, but I think he will be okay because he likes everyone.
Any good advice on my first week with them all together? I did a web search and have basic steps, but I was wondering if anyone had been thru this and has some good advice?
I'll be taking her home today.

1. Keep the cat away from the dogs for the first week or so - in a separate room. After a week, remove the cat from the room and let the dogs come in and sniff around. Do this a few times until they get used to the scent. You can also see their reaction to the cat smell to determine how they may interact.
You may not be able to keep the cat, please make arrangements when you pick up the cat in case you cannot keep it.
2. I have Pitt so he has the chasing instinct as well. My husband has two cats. First, keep the cat in a bathroom. Let them sniff under the door at each other for a day or so. We put up baby gates (of course my dog won't jump over) If the cats tried to jump over, we squirt them with a water bottle. If the dog tried to go after the cats, we squirt him with the bottle. We kept them separate for about a month. Then we only let the dog out when he had a leash on for a while. They got the idea and now they are fine.
3. get a gate to seperate so they can just see each other for few days,so they can see each other, but cant touch
