I volunteer at a cat rescue and kitten season is coming. I so badly want to foster a pregnant mom?

I want my son to experience a mother cat and her kittens. I foster alot of cats for them since I started volunteering about a month ago. How can I go about asking to foster a pregnant mom with kittens without looking like I am only interested in little cute furballs....I'm a bit passive and don't know how to speak up without saying it wrong

1. just tell them you are open to foster and to let you know if any mom's with kittens come in.

2. Put a request for this in with them and say as you have listed here that you want your son to be able to appreciate how a mother cat takes care of her babies as well in the birthing. Depending on your son's age they may support that then.

3. Just ask them. I'm sure they wont think your just wanting to cuddle with the kittens!

4. how much knowledge and experience do you have taking care of new born kittens. say the mother abandons them, will you be able to take care of all the kittens and keep them alive. I would expect that rescue centers would only give pregnant mothers or mothers with new born kittens to experienced foster parents.

maybe you should stick with fostering the older cats...they need a foster home just as much gives them time outside of the cage and in a home atmosphere which will make them more adoptable.

5. Just explain to them what you said to us.....that you'd really like your son to experience a mother cat and her kittens, so that he can learn about them and the way she cares for them, and learn to love and respect animals more. Just tell them that you're really interested in experiencing a cat giving birth, and helping mommy to care for her babies...it's a lovely experience that not many people see.
Don't worry too much, relax and just tell it like it is :)

Good luck!

6. If you ask to foster a pregnant cat, I highly doubt that they are going to think that you are in it just for the kittens. I would just go ahead and ask. You more than likely will not get denied if you have already fostered other cats. Good luck.

7. even if they think you are taking them just cause they are cute and cuddley....isnt that why we all fall in love with our furry friends in the first place? lol im sure they wont mind explain it jus as you explained it to everyone on answers!

8. I work in cat rescue too, and we are dying for fosters willing to take in pregnant moms and very young kittens. A lot of fosters think it's a lot of work, but if the mom and babies are healthy, it's actually very easy.
I'm sure they would love to take you up on your offer!

9. Very few people are willing to take on a pregnant cat, so if you've got a good track record with them as a foster they might jump at the chance for you to take one on. You didn't say how old your son was - is he past toddler age? Many rescues don't like to place kittens with toddlers, so this would be the only drawback I could see.

And no, they won't think you're only interested in kittens, but so what if you were? All the cats need foster homes! I'd find out ahead of time if there are any special requirements they might have for a pregnant cat, and prepare ahead of time to meet them, then as soon as one comes in, you just ask and let them know you're prepared and ready!
